This is the 46th AVOIDABLE incident reported to this site this year in which power lines were involved. There were 33 incidents reported to this site in 2006, 38 in 2005, 41 in 2004, 60 in 2003, 33 in 2002 and 35 in 2001. Again, all were avoidable. Just don't work cranes near energized power lines.

Police yesterday identified the Birdsboro man killed Wednesday after a crane fell onto his truck at a Stowe concrete plant.

West Pottsgrove Detective Sgt. Steve Ziegler said David Ronald Kennedy, 51, died of compression asphyxiation and blunt trauma, according to medical examiner Ian Hood, who performed an autopsy Wednesday night.

Ziegler said Kennedy was operating an 18-wheeler at Universal Concrete Products on Old Reading Pike at 1:15 p.m. when a crane driven by David Gring, 44, of Royersford, overturned, crushing the roof of the truck.

Ziegler said both men had to be extricated from their vehicles. Kennedy was pronounced dead at Pottstown Memorial Hospital, and Gring was treated for foot and leg injuries. Ziegler said police and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration are conducting separate investigations.
