June 20, 2003 update: Underground Services (1983) Ltd. fined $150,000 for health and safety violation  | Cache Copy |

Jim Clement, 56, and his son Ryan Clement, 26, were both killed shortly after 1:00 a.m. (working at night) Friday when a crane truck from Trenton Crane Service came into contact with overhead high-voltage wires, electrocuting the pair. Apparently working at night, driving with the boom up, they made contact with power lines. The son was on a flatbed truck when it happened and made the mistake of grounding himself as he got off to check things out.

Just as unfortunate, his father got out of the crane's cab for the same reason.

A construction worker helping to demolish the old Gold Shore Casino building on U.S. 90 was injured around 3 p.m. on Monday when a concrete beam fell across the cab of his crane, trapping him inside and crushing his leg.

Officials with the Biloxi Fire Department said rescue efforts included using a crane and a forklift to raise the concrete beam so firefighters could use the jaws of life to cut the man out of the cab.

T.J. Ellis, 79, of Alabama, was taken to Biloxi Regional Medical Center, where he was in serious but stable condition.
