July 22, 1999: Crane Accident
This machine was extracting pipe pile, working from a barge. The job involved replacing the Pier structures with new floating units. With the extractor and pile on the hook, the machine had seven degrees (7deg) of working radius. The barge was not ballasted, nor was the crane secured to the barge. The accident resulted when the barge listed and the machine was at the boom down limit, no one was hurt. Perhaps a larger machine would have given that extra margin of error. This is a new 118H Link-Belt. The machine was totally trashed when they removed it from the barge.

7/8/99: New Jersey Crane accident shuts Rt. 80 for hours.
PARSIPPANY: Eastbound Route 80 was shut for four hours yesterday morning, after a crane struck high tension wires, State Police said. Traffic had to be diverted off the interstate approaching milepost 46.5 following the 3:10 a.m. accident, Sgt. Al Della Fave said. Crane operator Robert Vonsee, 34, of North Caldwell, was moving a concrete barrier when the boom struck high tension wires crossing the eastbound lanes of Route 80, Della Fave said.
Vonsee was trapped inside the cab of the crane until the power was shut off. Vonsee was treated at Saint Clare's Hospital/Denville.
July 6, 1999: Tadano Crane Accident
The accident involved a Tadano Crane working along side a live Railroad track. The job entailed removing and rebuilding the super structure of the bridge overhead. While pouring concrete for the footings and piers, the bank gave way under the weight and pressure from the crane.
The accident actually happened the latter part of June, but the report wasn't received until July 6, 1999.
