University of Miami student Christine Petrowski, finds her car crushed by a crane that fell Thursday in Coral Gables, near U.S. 1 and Southwest 57th Avenue. No one was hurt, but the 150-ton crane demolished the car. The crane, from Gold Coast of Hollywood, toppled when the road beneath it collapsed because of its weight. The accident also caused a water main to break, leaving nearby residents and businesses without water for most of the afternoon. Two other cranes took about 30 minutes to lift the crane back to an unright position. We have photos on file. The complete story is available in the Miami Herald 1998 archive. |
